Onumba.com,USA ——— Established in 2016 in Columbus, the New Americans Magazine has served as Central Ohio’s premier news outlet specializing in immigrant affairs.
Over the years, the magazine has grown to become a trusted voice for the immigrant community and the general public in the area.
Deba Uwadiae —— a seasoned journalist and author from Nigeria —— is the Founder, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the New Americans Magazine. The publication has established itself as the authoritative voice for the Central Ohio’s immigrant community, helping to shape the local narrative around essential immigrant issues.
A big aspect of the magazine’s mission is serving as a vital conduit of information for both the city’s New American Program and the state’s Ohio New African Immigrants Commission (ONAIC) on related matters.
Mr. Uwadiae himself has emerged as the go-to-individual for inquiries and resources concerning immigrants in Central Ohio and beyond. Central Ohio is home to 155,000 residents born in other countries, speaking more than 100 languages, and owning more than 330 businesses.
Mr. Uwadiae’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. He is a recipient of two 2018 Columbus City Council awards, presented in recognition of the profound impact his work has made in Central Ohio’s immigrant community.
Mr. Uwadiae is the author of “The Immigrant on Columbus Way: Early Life in America and Citizenship.” He recently established The New American Community Information Center (NACIC), a 501©3 non-profit organization serving as a central hub for resources about immigrants for consumers such as new Americans, students, government leaders, the private sector and the general public.
New Americans Magazine is a general interest publication dedicated to informing, educating and entertaining the immigrant and refugee community by spotlighting vital local activities, events and programs.
One of those events was the 2026 New Americans Book Fair and Children’s Creative Writing and Arts Festival which took place on Sept. 19, 2026, at the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Karl Road branch.
The festival featured a vibrant tapestry of young talents, all gathered under one roof to showcase their brilliant craft ——– their Magnum opus.
