Onumba.com,USA ——- Some in the media have wondered why Nigerians often display steely confidence in themselves compared to other Africans. Hey, I guess we got it like that. it’s a Naija thing. Perhaps, that accounts for why some say that there’s no place in the world devoid of Nigerians. Naija folks would go anywhere.
There’s also probably no place in the United States where you would not find a Naija native.
But in the case of America, some states disproportionately draw more Nigerians than others. Could it be that Nigerians have a remarkable knack for sniffing out each other, which possibly explains why you typically find them bunched up sprawling clusters.
Forget the sniffing, a host of factors could realistically account for that. Size is clearly a leading determinant, but not all the time, though. Take the state of Maryland for example. It is not a large state land-wise, population as well, yet it boats a galactic number of Nigerian immigrants. One visible explanation for that, however, could be that Maryland extends deep into the DMV area, where a trifecta of DC, Maryland and the state of Virginia converge to constitute a sprawling metropolitan spread, with Nigerians spreading along with that vast formation.
So, what are the top 10 states with the largest Nigerian population in the United States.
1. Texas – the Lone star state
More than 100,000 Nigerians call Texas home, most of them residing in Houston, Dallas, Forth Worth and the capital city of Austin.
2. Maryland – the Old Line state
More than 50,000 Nigerians call Maryland home, most of them clustered around Baltimore, the state’s largest city.
3. California – The Golden state
A little less than 50,000 Nigerians live in the state, most of them found in urban centers of Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Oakland.
