Onumba.com, Nigeria ———- When Pastor Jimmy Odukoya shared a photograph of two hands wearing wedding rings with the caption “To New Beginnings”, I am sure he knew people would have questions.

And he was right.

The first question was obviously, who is the woman?

But beyond that, there was another question. What happened to Kemi?

For years, many people knew Jimmy Odukoya as a married man. He married Oluwakemi Banjoko in 2013, and together they had two children. So, for people who were not aware that the marriage had ended, the announcement came as quite a surprise.

On November 1, 2026, during a Sunday service at The Fountain of Life Church in Lagos, Jimmy finally introduced the woman behind the wedding rings.

Pastor Mo Odukoya.

And the way he introduced her was something else.

He spoke about how he had been navigating life alone since taking over the leadership of the church following his father’s death in 2023. He then made reference to the Bible’s account of Adam finding a suitable companion, before announcing that he had found his own.

He even asked the congregation, “Did I do well?” after introducing her.

Well, the congregation certainly thought so. There was cheering, applause and a special prayer for the couple by Pastor Tunde Bakare and his wife.
Now, congratulations are in order. Nobody should be expected to remain unmarried forever simply because a previous marriage did not work out. People separate, heal, move on and sometimes find love again.

But I think there is a reason this particular marriage has generated so much conversation.

Jimmy’s first marriage was not some distant chapter of his life that nobody knew about. He was married to Kemi for years, they had children together, and many people followed their lives as a family. Yet, the circumstances surrounding the end of that marriage have remained largely private.

And now, he has introduced another woman as his wife.

Interestingly, Mo Jasmine Daniel is also coming from a previous marriage. She was previously married to British-Nigerian music producer Mosadoluwa Adegboye, popularly known as itsMOSA. She is a pastor, media consultant, author and creative entrepreneur.

However, the internet has not been discussing only the wedding.

There have been conversations suggesting that Jimmy had been following or showing interest in Mo even before his previous marriage ended. Some people have gone further to question whether there was an overlap between the two relationships.

I have seen these conversations, but I have not found evidence to establish that an affair happened. So, I would not present that as fact.

Still, I find the public reaction interesting.

When a person remarries, especially someone who has been in the public eye for years, people naturally become curious about the transition from the previous marriage to the new one.

And in Jimmy’s case, the fact that he is a pastor makes the interest even greater. People are not just looking at a man who has found love again. They are also looking at the senior pastor of a church whose personal life is connected to his public ministry.

I also think there is something worth considering about how much of a pastor’s personal life the public feels entitled to know. His first marriage ended, but he did not make a public announcement explaining the circumstances. He has now chosen to make his new marriage public, and people are trying to connect the two chapters.

Perhaps that is the price of being a public figure.
I am not questioning his right to remarry. I am more interested in the questions surrounding the transition from one marriage to another, and why people seem to have so much to say about it.

Anyway, congratulations to the newlyweds. But I have a feeling this conversation is not ending anytime soon.
