Unfortunately, no one warned Robert Raines soon enough. He found out the hard way after a fiery incident that played out in Asheville. NC.
Of all the cars in the usually vast Wal-Mart parking lot to rob, Raines, 34, had the misfortune of picking the wrong one. That choice came pretty close to costing him his life.
The ugly incident, hopefully, taught him a close macabre lesson.
After shopping at Wal-Mart store, 5-month pregnant Christine Braswell, 26, returned to her car and found Raines inside rummaging through her purse. Startled, Raines took off, zipping through the crowded parking lot as a seemingly helpless Braswell watched him zigzag through parked cars making his escape.
But Braswell’s helplessness was brief. Mad as hell, she hopped into her SUV, turned it on and chased down Raines with it. Just before Raines could leap out of the path of the approaching vehicular fury, she hit and mowed down the fleeing thief.
In Braswell’s eyes, Raines deserved every bit of the whack he suffered.
“He was with my purse, and he took off, and I took off after him,” she said. “Me being five months pregnant, I chased a little ways, then come back, jumped in the car, threw it in gear and come across the curb and ran him over. I was not going to let him get away with it. It’s not right. It’s not fair.”
Both Raines, who luckily suffered only minor cuts and Braswell who expressed satisfaction for her action, were arrested.
No surprises for why unhinged Raines was apprehended and cuffed, but why arrest Braswell who was the victim?
Seemingly, she was arrested for misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
It was actually a Ford SUV which she, owing to her fast thinking, bravely converted into a “deadly weapon” she badly needed to unleash a healthy dose of vehicular beat down against the thieving poltroon.
Good for her.
After it was all over, the ragtag, pitiful goober sat on the ground moping oafishly and perhaps mulling over the brazenly foolish clusterfuck he got himself into.
Needless to say, Braswell should go completely free. As for Raines, I think, he should pay to fix her truck before heading off to a fitting calaboose for his criminal idiocy and shenanigans tormenting innocent citizens.
