Trump recently banned CNN, MS NOW, Politico from the White House. In return, they hit him with a lawsuit for violating their constitutional right

Onumba.com,USA ———- Typically, you find press freedom challenges in developing nations. It is a problem quite uncharacteristic of modern Western democracies.

Even in developing nations, it is actually becoming a bit of a rarity.

Why then is this happening in the United States ——– the leader of the free world?

Well ——– it is precisely because we have an unhinged, irrational president who for some bizarre reason believes he is entitled to pick his own press corps and block any outlet that gives him negative coverage.

That’s why.

But this is not really a striking departure from the president’s trademark, pantomime character.  President Trump, going back to his first term, has never been a fan of the press, particularly reporters who doesn’t say nice things about him and his administration. He is a corrosive, overbearing narcissist who not only craves a friendly microphone, but also drawn to favored reporters from outlets who would stroke his ego, for example, Newsmax.

And if a reporter asks a question he doesn’t like, the president would wig out.  He would resort to deflective ad hominem attacks, insulting and abusive language quicker than you can say “nasty, rude, loud, stupid and fake news.”

But verbal abuse and name calling or not, journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico would not compromise their principles to join the stroke Trump’s ego kumbaya fest. They refuse to cave to his erratic, absurd and irrational demands.

Consequently, the president banned journalists from these three media organizations from the White House.

But CNN, MS NOW and Politico are having none of it. They have come out swinging, filing a lawsuit against Trump and three of his senior consiglieres in the U.S. District Court in Washington DC, claiming a violation of their First Amendment Right and seeking a restoration of their access to the White House.

“President Trump has said in no uncertain terms that he would prefer only to be covered by news organizations and reporters who praise his administration,” the complaint states.

The filing further states: “But the Constitution does not allow a president or any other government official to deprive the press of their First Amendment Right…with no notice or process based solely on his dislike of the content of their reporting.”

It continued: “This ban could not be a more direct assault on the First Amendment nor a more blatant violation of our most fundamental constitutional principles.”
